Our Process
1
Before We Begin
We start by removing all doors and drawer fronts to allow us to transport and refinish these items at our offsite industrial spray booth.
Then, the floor, countertops and backsplashes of the work area are thoroughly masked off to provide optimal protection for high-traffic surfaces during the refinishing process.
2
Protecting your Home
We begin protecting your home by meticulously masking off all areas surrounding the cabinets with paper or plastic to help shield your home from potential overspray. Appliances are also carefully masked to provide the same level of protection.
Next, we construct a temporary wall around the workspace using telescopic poles and large plastic sheets that extend from floor to ceiling.
To further safeguard your home, we install a ventilation system that directs air from the work zone to the outside, to help remove unwanted odors.
3
Cleaning and Prep
Following the last step, we thoroughly clean and sand all cabinets to prepare them for refinishing. The deep cleaning process removes accumulated build-up from years of use, ensuring proper a proper bond.
After cleaning, we use sanders equipped with built-in HEPA filtration systems to minimize dust within the home. This sanding step is crucial, as it opens up the wood grain and fibers, optimizing the surface for primer application and ensuring superior adhesion.
4
Priming and Sanding
With the home protected—masking in place, the temporary wall set up, and the ventilation system running outside—we move on to priming and sanding.
We start by applying a water-based catalyzed polyurethane bonding primer. This primer creates a strong seal on the wood, providing an ideal surface for the finish coat. It also acts as an effective stain blocker, helping to prevent tannins and other natural compounds in the wood from bleeding through.
Once the primer has dried, we lightly sand it using our sanders, which are still connected to the HEPA-filtration system to minimize dust. This step is essential for ensuring a solid bond for the finish coat. We'll also take this opportunity to address any issues we find, making sure the cabinets are prepared for a quality finish.
5
Finishing Coats
With the primer lightly sanded, we're ready to apply the finish coats.
We use a water-based catalyzed polyurethane that's imported directly from Italy. This specialized cabinet finish meets the stringent durability standards set by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA), which are some of the toughest in the industry and that most paints struggle to meet.
Once finish coats are applied, your cabinets will look and feel great.
6
Clean Up
We'll take down the temporary wall, remove all the masking tape, paper, and plastic, and clean up any trash. By the time we're done, your kitchen will look just as it did before we arrived.
The kitchen will be fully functional, though your doors and drawer fronts will still be offsite. They'll be returned and installed shortly thereafter.
In the meantime, we'll be refinishing your doors and drawer fronts at our facility using the same meticulous process as with your cabinets—cleaning, sanding, priming, resanding, and applying coats of our specialty cabinet finish.
7
Installation and Final Walk Through
Once your doors and drawer fronts are finished, which usually takes about 3-5 business days, we'll bring them back to your home for installation.
After everything is in place, we’ll offer you a final walkthrough to admire your brand-new kitchen!
